چکیده

This study was undertaken to determine the epidemiology and antibiogram of Listeria species isolated from raw frozen Atlantic Mackerel (Scomber Scombrus) fish sold in Enugu State Southeastern Nigeria. Twentyfive grams each gut skin were collected 800 8 major markets randomly selected area. Isolation done using half full fraser broths, polymyxin acriflavine lithium chloride ceftazidime aesculin mannitol (PALCAM) agar. Confirmation genus by a polymerase chain reaction. Identification an analytic profile index (API) kit specific for Listeria. The antibiotic resistance isolates determined disc diffusion method. Out samples, 38 (4.75%) positive species. North (6.50%) had significantly (P<0.05) higher prevalence than East (3.0%). Five identified. innocua (71.1%) predominated, followed welshimeri (10.5%), ivanovii (7.9%), grayi (5.3%) monocytogenes (5.3%). All susceptible tested antibacterial agents. occurrence mackerel fish, poses threat, when consumed or lightly cooked, people especially immunocomprormised persons whose population is increasing as result improvement medical technology. Also, possibility cross contamination kitchen food service establishments also concern. Since all got this showed 100% susceptibility antimicrobials tested, therefore, there no fear acquiring transferring genes general human population.

Population Structure of Atlantic Mackerel (Scomber scombrus)

Atlantic mackerel (Scomber scombrus) occurs on both sides of the north Atlantic and has traditionally been grouped into 5 spawning components, some of which were thought to be isolated natal homing stocks. Previous studies have provided no evidence for cross Atlantic migration and no or weak support for isolated spawning components within either side of the North Atlantic. We question the de-fa...

Aldehyde formation in frozen mackerel (Scomber scombrus) in the presence and absence of instant green tea.

The effect of frozen storage on lipid peroxidation in Atlantic mackerel (Scomber scombrus) stored for up to 26 weeks at -10 or -80°C (control), with and without green tea antioxidants, was investigated. Hydroperoxides (PV) and aldehydes (TBARS) were measured by HPLC and LC-MS and hexanal by GC. There was an increase in peroxide value which was associated with an increase in aldehydes, followed ...

Differential population structuring of two closely related fish species, the mackerel (Scomber scombrus) and the chub mackerel (Scomber japonicus), in the Mediterranean Sea.

Population genetic structures of the mackerel (Scomber scombrus) and chub mackerel (Scomber japonicus) were studied in the Mediterranean Sea. Fragments of 272 bp (S. scomber) and 387 bp (S. japonicus) of the 5'-end of the mitochondrial control region were sequenced from spawning individuals collected off the coasts of Greece, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. High levels of mitochondrial control regi...

Migration and Fisheries of North East Atlantic Mackerel (Scomber scombrus) in Autumn and Winter

It has been suggested that observed spatial variation in mackerel fisheries, extending over several hundreds of kilometers, is reflective of climate-driven changes in mackerel migration patterns. Previous studies have been unable to clearly demonstrate this link. In this paper we demonstrate correlation between temperature and mackerel migration/distribution as proxied by mackerel catch data fr...

Diets and selective feeding by larvae of Atlantic mackerel Scomber scombrus on zooplankton *

This paper describes the diets of 201 larvae of Atlantic mackerel Scomber scombrus L. collected from Long Island Sound, New York (USA) during May-June 1982 and 1983. First-feeding larvae (3.5 mm in length) were phytophagous. The diets of larvae 4.5 mm were composed of the nauplii of Acartia hudsonica, Temora longicornis and Pseudocalanus sp. Larvae > 5 mm ate some copepodites of A. hudsonica an...
